2008 RACE INFORMATION:

The Second Annual Noble Canyon 50+K is scheduled for September 27, 2008 and will again be staged out of the Protestant Bible Camp in Pine Valley. Applicants can sign up for the race beginning June 1, 2008. We will limit this year's field to the first 175 applications received. We expect to fill to limit in minimal time so don't delay.

Report:

Congratulations to all our participants who challenged this beautiful course on a spectacular day. We had 123 finishers out of 134 starters for an impressive 92% finish rate. This was in part due to the outstanding volunteer efforts of our aid stations, radio support, and course marking teams.

The Pine Valley Protestant Bible Center was an incredible host for the event providing outstanding facilities, great food, and superb hospitality. We cannot thank them enough.

And a special thanks to Paul Schmidt who provided herculean volunteer work by spearheading the radios, helping with the web site, hauling supplies to aid stations, and providing keen insight to the Race Director. Paul and I will additionally be directing the San Diego 100 Miler on June 7, 2008.

Thanks also goes to our generous sponsors: The San Diego Running Institute, Accelerade, Avia, Injinji, Clif, and Nathan whose contributions enhanced the runners' experience.

Eric Clifton set an impressive winning time in this inaugural event for the overall victory while Michelle Barton ran a phenomenal race in the women's field finishing second overall only 20 minutes behind Eric. An equally impressive time within the men's Senior Division was posted by 60-year old Robert Huotari who ran 5+30 over the 33-miles of the RAT RACE 50+K.

On behalf of the San Diego Bad Rats, thank you for sharing the day with us. We hope to see many of you Rats back next year for the Second Annual Bad Rat 50+K Rat Race.

OVERVIEW:

The San Diego Bad Rats Running Club is pleased to host the second annual Noble Canyon 50K trail ultra on September 27, 2008 starting promptly at 7:00 am. The course includes 20 miles of single track trail climbing and descending Noble Canyon, including 10 miles of trail over sections of the Pacific Coast and Big Laguna Lake Trails.

Runners will be treated to beautiful vistas, very challenging and technical trails, and five well stocked aid stations manned by veteran ultra runners. We hope you will join us for what we promise will be a tough yet rewarding event.

Race Headquarters is located at the Pine Valley Bible Conference Center (PVBC) near Pine Valley, CA. The race will start (7:00 am) and finish at the gymnasium at PVBC. Packet pick-up will begin at 5:30 am on race morning. Please arrive early as parking is at a premium. Alcohol is not permitted on the PVBC premises.

Registration will open June 1, 2008 with entries limited to the first 175 applicants. Applications post marked before 6/1/08 will be returned. A waiting list will be maintained if we reach our US Forest Service permit limit. We expect to fill to limit in minimal time sot there will be no race day registration.

Entrants will receive a quality technical shirt and other goodies from our sponsors:

The San Diego Running Institute, Injinji, Clif, Nathan, and Accelerade will provide sponsorship product for our entrants. There will be overall and age division awards (Open, Masters, Seniors, and Super Seniors) for both male and female winners.

Runners and crews will be served light pre-race refreshments and there will be a post race sandwich bar open for runners and their crews beginning at 2:00 pm. The awards ceremony will begin at 3:00 pm and there will be numerous sponsor handouts at that time.

Noble Canyon 50K is also proud to be a part of the Southern California Ultra Runner's Grand Prix Series and will be donating a free membership for the Series to one of our San Diego participants.
